Two in one

Because that's how far behind I am already. It's mainly the photos that are slowing me down. I keep forgetting to take my camera to places to find interesting photos. And yesterday, when I did remember my camera, I forgot to replace the memory card. So I could only take three pictures, and I can't load them onto my computer, because I can't find the cable that connects the camera to the computer. So I might need to add photos of the day at a later stage. So the plan for today is two blog posts for the price of one - aren't you guys lucky.

Friday

Song of the day: 'No Good Deed' from the musical 'Wicked'. One of my favourite songs from one of my favourite musicals.

Outing of the day: There were actually two. Aren't I lucky. Firstly, my housemate and I went looking at another house nearby to potentially move into. This one looks quite promising. After that, we had coffee at our favourite nearby cafe. So that was the first outing. The second outing was essentially me going crazy at home, and so going to the city library to work. That worked quite well, and I got a lot of writing done.

Activities of the day: Other than the two outings, I can't really remember. I called people to ask them to socialise, but they were either busy or out of town, I watched Tarzan with my housemate and her boyfriend, probably more 'Arthur' and 'Plants vs Zombies'.

Photo of the day: I forgot to take my camera to take a photo of the house I looked at, but it's nearby, so one day I'll go back to take a photo.

Quote of the day: There's a fine line between a hobby and a mental illness.

Saturday:

Song of the day: 'Sarah is for Lovers' by 'Blud'

Outing of the day: Three today. No wonder my project isn't going too well. The first outing was to a bar about half an hour's drive away, where I was an extra in a short film. The film was about an old rock star, and I was in the crowd at his last gig. It was quite funny watching the guy get sprayed with water so that he looked all sweaty. And they were calling out things like 'Sound', 'Speed', 'Camera', 'Shot 10, Action'. The second outing was just a walk to the fruit and veg markets, because I ate all the fruit in the house. The third outing was a friend's 21st birthday party. That was a lot of fun, the perfect balance of catching up with old friends and meeting new people.

Activities of the day: 'Arthur' and 'Zombies' almost goes without saying, talking on the phone to my parents, who aren't very happy about me signing a new house lease until I get a job, and pretending to clean my room. That's about all the time I had between outings.

Photo of the day: I took a couple of photos of the film set, before realising that I'd left my memory card behind. When I find the cable to connect my camera to the computer, I'll upload them.

Quote of the day: "Let's take all the special people and put them somewhere away from main society". "Isn't that what universities are for?" - A couple of people at the party last night.

Day 3

A slightly more productive day than yesterday.

You may wonder what the point of this blog is. Most of the time, so do I. It's always personal, trivial stuff, that nobody really wants to know. I don't actually want anybody who knows me to find this and read it and connect it to me. I suppose everybody just wants to be recognised for what they do. Even if the recognition comes from anonymous internet traffic. Anyway, here goes the catch of the day.

Song of the day: 'So Yesterday' by Hilary Duff. I hadn't heard that song for years, when all of a sudden it was stuck in my head. Weird.

Outing of the day: I felt like inviting my sister over for dinner, and in order to do so, I needed to buy some yummy food. So I went for a walk to the grocery shops. It was a really nice day for a walk, and I needed the exercise. While at the supermarket, I ran into a friend from school who I hadn't seen for a while, which was nice. On the way home, I walked past a massive swarm of bees (at least, I think they were bees). A random lady and I watched them together for a while, and exchanged a couple of sentences. When she drove off a bit later, she waved to me. We shared a moment.

Activities of the day: More 'Arthur', given variety with some 'Fawlty Towers', more plants and zombies, a really stupid job application (Seriously! They shouldn't be asking me my marital status and how old my kids are - they don't need to know, and if it affects their decision, it's pure discrimination), grocery shopping, baking a delicious roast vegetable pizza, eating said pizza with my sister and her husband.

Picture of the day: The swarm of bees flew away before I could get a decent picture, so you'll just have to take my word for it. The way they lazily spiralled around each other was quite beatiful.

Late post already

So much for this being a daily entry. By day three you can already see my lack of ability to concentrate. If anybody sees any spare concentration lying around and is able to send it my way, that would be much appreciated. I don't need much, just enough to stay at the computer and write, or cook dinner, or do grocery shopping, or clean the house, or write job applications. You know, the normal things that most people seem to take for granted.

A few days ago, I decided that in order to get my project written, I needed to write a minimum of 750 words a day between now and Christmas. I haven't even managed that. I'm just suffering from a severe lack of achievement. When I look back over 2010, all I can see is a badly designed project, and the fact that I've gone from being a student to being unemployed. Anyway, here goes another description of my day - from yesterday. I wonder if I'll make it to a second post tonight.

Song of the day: "One Hell of a Place", from the musical "The Devil Downtown". A student production performed at uni earlier this year. I'm not sure why.

Outing of the day: Sitting at home was starting to drive me crazy, so I decided to go and work at the library. It sort-of worked, in that I was more productive than I would have been at home. I hadn't realised that there was a summer school for high school students there that week, so the place wasn't quite as quiet as I expected, but I ran into a few friends, so that was okay. One friend showed me a present she'd bought for her step-mum: a pair of wooden spoons that doubled as drumsticks. They were awesome! After that I went to jam on the organ with a friend, which was kind of fun.

Activities of the day: Other than those described above - more plants and zombies, more Arthur, another day of forgetting to eat lunch, and a couple of job applications

Photo of the day: The organ at one of the university colleges. It's a pretty shiny instrument, but the pedals confuse me.

Quote of the day: 'The zombies ate your brains' - said every time you lose a level on 'Plants vs Zombies'.

Let's start at the very beginning...

...Which, according to Maria von Trapp, is a very good place to start.

Okay, so why, in an internet-world full of people trying to share their messages, throughts, feelings and dreams am I trying to start a new blog, with my own messages, throughts, feelings and dreams? I suppose this is a kind of self-prescribed therapy. Next question - why do I need therapy? And if I need it, why don't I get it professionally prescribed?

I'm currently a sort-of university student. Sort of, because the semester has technically finished, but I still need to finish my final year project. I'm struggling with the project a lot, mainly the actual writing. I figured that writing something else, something useless, something cathartic, would free up my writing for the actual project. So that's the reason this blog exists. I'm not actually going to tell any of my friends about the blog, so if you're reading this, you've stubled across it by accident. You probably spend too much time online.

I've called it "Catch of the Day", because the original idea was to do this like a daily journal, with a few different categories - song of the day, photo of the day, quote of the day, activity of the day etc. Yep, it's all about me. Yet another self-absorbed whiner. All I can say is - you don't like, you don't read. Simple.

Song of the Day: Seargent Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, by The Beatles, from the album of the same name. I don't know why, it's just stuck in my head for some reason. The song reminds me of my faculty parade float from this year. Even though I wasn't in the parade.

Outing of the day: My housemate and I are getting kicked out of our house in about a month's time, so today we looked at a new flat that's available to rent nearby. We decided that it wasn't a very friendly house, so we won't go into it any further. After looking at the flat, we went grocery shopping together, followed by a coffee at the cute little deli.

Activities of the day: Watching 'Arthur;, a show I enjoyed as a kid, purely for the sake of reliving my childhood; applying for lots of jobs, playing 'Plants vs Zombies', cooking beef stroganoff, and very little final project writing. Photo of the day: Taken while cooking dinner. Prime example of how not to steam green beans. (Nice bit of assonance there.)
